Acuity Insurance recently recognized our very own Tom Sutter with the ‘Agents Have Heart’ award for all the work he does with Cal’s Angels – a pediatric cancer foundation with a mission of granting wishes, raising awareness, and funding research to help kids fighting cancer. Along with the recognition, Acuity provided Tom with a commemorative miniature version of the Acuity Charity Wheel as well as an assortment of personalized wine and glasses to help the team celebrate. Their leadership also made this fun video!
Tom had no clue he was receiving the award when he came to the meeting and was surprised to see everyone who was there to celebrate his work both in person and virtually. After he calmed down from the surprise, he told everyone
“At first I was confused since I was told that this was going to be a strategic planning meeting – that I’d actually prepared several topics and notes for by the way. But the whole time it was just a ploy they’d worked on for weeks to make sure I was in the office to surprise! I’m very humbled by the award from acuity and the work that the Crum-Halsted team put in to surprise me.”
Tom founded Cal’s Angels in 2007 after he lost his son, Cal, to Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. After going through that battle, Tom was inspired by Cal’s ability to never give up hope and how he was continually focused on the well-being of the other children fighting cancer as opposed to focusing on himself.
“To see what Cal’s Angels has done for these brave pediatric cancer fighters and their families makes the horrible life experience of losing my son a little easier. It’ll never be easy but seeing the smiles on all these kids’ faces gives me extra purpose to carry on.”
Cal’s Angels has raised over $14 million since its founding and helps fund research through clinical trials at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, raise awareness, and grant wishes with the help and support of incredibly generous donors.
